At Alterno, we respect your right to control your data and integrations. This page explains how to delete your integrations, what data is removed, and your rights regarding data deletion under applicable privacy laws.

2. Types of Data Deletion

A. Integration Disconnection

When you disconnect a specific integration (e.g., Square POS, Facebook, Instagram), we:

  • Immediately revoke API access tokens and connections
  • Stop syncing new data from that service
  • Remove cached integration data within 30 days
  • Retain conversation history and AI training data unless specifically requested for deletion
  • Maintain audit logs for compliance purposes (up to 7 years)

B. Complete Account Deletion

When you delete your entire account, we permanently remove:

  • All personal information and account data
  • All integration connections and cached data
  • Conversation history and message logs
  • AI training data derived from your interactions
  • Knowledge base configurations and custom settings
  • Subscription and billing information (except as required by law)

3. Data Retention Timeline

Immediate (0-24 hours)

Access revocation, service disconnection, account deactivation

7 Days

Cached personal data, session information, temporary files

30 Days

Integration data, conversation history, AI model customizations

Up to 7 Years

Audit logs, compliance records, legal requirements (anonymized)

4. What Cannot Be Deleted

Certain data must be retained for legal, security, or operational reasons:

  • Financial Records: Transaction history, invoices, tax documents (up to 7 years)
  • Security Logs: Fraud prevention, security incident records (up to 2 years)
  • Legal Compliance: Data required by Australian law, GDPR, or other regulations
  • Aggregated Analytics: Anonymized usage statistics (no personal identifiers)
  • Public Content: Content you've shared publicly that others have interacted with

5. Third-Party Data

When you disconnect integrations, please note that data stored directly with third-party services (Facebook, Instagram, Square, etc.) is governed by their respective privacy policies. Alterno cannot delete data from these external services on your behalf.

You must contact each service directly to request deletion of data they maintain.

6. Your Data Rights

Under GDPR (EU/UK Users)

  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Right to Data Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we process your data
  • Right to Object: Object to data processing for direct marketing

Under CCPA (California Users)

  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information
  • Right to Know: Request information about data collection and use
  • Right to Opt-Out: Opt-out of sale of personal information (we don't sell data)
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: Equal service regardless of privacy choices

Under Australian Privacy Act

  • Access and Correction: Request access to and correction of personal information
  • Complaints Process: Lodge complaints with us or the OAIC
  • Anonymity Options: Deal with us anonymously where practicable

7. How to Request Data Deletion

Option 1: Self-Service (Recommended)

  1. Log into your Alterno dashboard
  2. Navigate to Settings → Integrations
  3. Disconnect specific services or delete your entire account
  4. Follow the confirmation prompts

Option 2: Email Request

Send an email to support@alterno.com.au with:

  • Subject line: "Data Deletion Request"
  • Your full name and email address associated with the account
  • Specific services or data you want deleted
  • Reason for deletion (optional)

8. Verification Process

To protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized deletions, we may:

  • Require you to log into your account to confirm the request
  • Send a confirmation email to your registered email address
  • Ask for additional identification for large-scale deletion requests
  • Provide a grace period (typically 7-14 days) to cancel the deletion

9. Impact of Data Deletion

Important Considerations

  • • Data deletion is typically irreversible
  • • Your AI agent will lose learned preferences and customizations
  • • Integration disconnection may disrupt business operations
  • • Historical analytics and reports will become unavailable
  • • Active subscriptions will be cancelled

10. Alternatives to Deletion

Before deleting your data, consider these alternatives:

  • Account Deactivation: Temporarily disable your account without deleting data
  • Integration Pause: Temporarily disconnect services without data removal
  • Data Export: Download your data before deletion
  • Privacy Settings: Adjust data sharing and processing preferences
  • Selective Deletion: Delete specific data types while keeping others

11. Data Backup and Recovery

Important: Once data is deleted according to our retention schedule, it cannot be recovered. We recommend:

  • Exporting important data before initiating deletion
  • Backing up integration settings and configurations
  • Documenting custom AI training and knowledge base content
  • Saving important conversation logs locally if needed
